About The Archives

The London South Bank University Archives Centre was established to collect, preserve and make accessible the corporate and historic archives of the University and its amalgamated institutions. To this end we hold collections for the following educational institutions:

  • London South Bank University (includes archives for the Borough Polytechnic Institute, Polytechnic of the South Bank, South Bank Polytechnic and South Bank University)
  • Battersea College of Education
  • Brixton School of Building
  • City of Westminster College
  • LLU+
  • National College of Heating, Ventilating, Refrigeration and Fan Engineering
  • Redwood College of Health Studies
  • Rachel McMillan College of Education
  • South West London College

We do not currently hold archives for all the educational institutions that have merged with the University, but we are constantly seeking to add to our holdings to build a comprehensive history of all our amalgamated institutions.

We also hold archives for the following:

  • David Singmaster (former professor emeritus)
  • Greater London War Risk Study (GLAWARS)
  • Local Endowed Charities
  • South London Polytechnic Institute

For more information about all these archives please see Search the Archives.

As London South Bank University is still a working institution we are continually acquiring more corporate records, which are added to the catalogue and are accessible to researchers. Some records, primarily published materials, are available immediately whilst others are available after a pre-determined closure period.

All material that is open to researchers is included on our online catalogue, which can be searched and browsed. The catalogue provides descriptive records of the archives, providing information on the content, format, dates of creation and circumstances of creation surrounding an archival record.

Donating to the archives

The University Archives Centre proactively collects material to enhance its holdings and welcomes relevant donations from outside sources. If you have anything you wish to donate please contact us.

Please see our Archive Collections Policy (PDF File 149 KB) for further details on the material we collect.
